Country Dance Lessons

Come down and learn country two-step and line dancing at the VFW, every Tuesday night from 7-8pm!

VFW members and Bona Fide guests of all levels are welcome; whether you are a seasoned dance veteran, or an absolute beginner, there is a place for you here! The class is free, though $5 donations are encouraged and go towards supporting the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7686 . Lessons are taught by Kiefer Palm, who has over 15 years of experience. Lincoln Forest Fire Restrictions

The Lincoln National Forest has implemented Stage One fire restrictions due to dry conditions and periodic high winds, which create severe fire hazards. Camp fires, cooking grills and smoking all have restrictions until October. Contact the Forest Service via their website or the Regional Forest Director at (575) 434-7200 for more information.

Retiring US Flags

The Holloman Air Force Base Honour Guard will help you or you organisation retire old, worn out US flags. Bring the flags to First National Bank at 414 E. First Street between 9am – 4pm on weekdays or contact Rainee Mackewich at (575) 437-4880

Civil Air Patrol

The Civil Air Patrol is looking for new members, aged 12 to 17, who are interested in learning search and rescue techniques, aerospace education and developing life and career skills. Meetings are ever Tuesday from 6-8pm at the White Sands Regional Airport, 3500 Airport Road, Alamogordo. City Wide Clean Up

The City of Alamogordo is having an all volunteer city-wide clean up, Saturday, July 18th from 7am until noon. The program will begin at Dudley School Community Center, located on 6th Street and Maryland. Please come volunteer to help keep Alamogordo clean and beautiful. Marathon at HAFB

Holloman Air Force Base is holding their annual “Ace of Races” marathon on October 10, 2026. Multiple events will be held, including a full marathon, a half-marathon, a 5K and a 1 mile fun run for children. The full course is on Holloman and is USA Track and Field certified; this race can be used as a qualifier for nationally ranked marathons. National Nite Out

The Tularosa Basin Regional Dispatch Authority and the Otero County Sheriff’s Office are hosting the 2026 “Take Back The Night” Event on October 9th, starting at 6:00pm. The event will be held at the Otero County Fairgrounds Pavilion, and aims to bring residents, organizations, businesses and public safety officials together to strengthen the bonds of our community. Fiesta of Hope

Kids Inc. is having a Fun Fiesta Night on August 22nd to raise funds for their organisation, which supports children and families in Otero County who are healing from abuse, neglect and violence. The event will be held at the Tea Shed and will begin at 6:30pm; it’s open to all, and will feature dinner, music and a silent auction. Volunteer Drivers

The Alamogordo Senior Center has a great need for volunteer drivers to deliver meals to home-bound elderly citizens. Volunteers would work between 10:30 and noon on weekdays, on days of their choosing, and receive a mileage reimbursement. For more details, contact the director of the Senior Centre at 575-439-4150

Salvation Army Seeks Donations

There is a high demand for food donations to help feed those in need in Otero County. Please bring canned goods (fruit, meat, vegetables), dry goods (cereal, rice, noodles, dry beans), peanut butter, fruit juice, bottled water and any other non-perishable products you can spare to the Salvation Army Center; 1900 East 1st Street.
