Country Dance Lessons

Come down and learn country two-step and line dancing at the VFW, every Tuesday night from 7-8pm!

VFW members and Bona Fide guests of all levels are welcome; whether you are a seasoned dance veteran, or an absolute beginner, there is a place for you here! The class is free, though $5 donations are encouraged and go towards supporting the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7686 . Lessons are taught by Kiefer Palm, who has over 15 years of experience. The Lincoln National Forest Plans Prescribed Burning

The Lincoln National Forest is planning prescribed pile burns on the Smokey Bear Ranger District this October. Forest Service officials estimate that work could begin as early as October 13, 2026. The first project would be the Smokey Bear Ranger District Administrative Pile Burn on Tuesday (Oct. 13), followed by the Skinner Block 2 project on October 14, 2026. Additional implementation may continue through the end of October, as conditions allow. Certified prescribed fire specialists use prescribed fires to reduce overgrown vegetation, helping protect local communities, infrastructure, and natural resources from extreme, high severity wildfires. No road closures are associated with this planned prescribed fire activity. However, visitors should remain alert in the area as firefighters work. More information can be found here.

Fall Festival

Eternity Baptist Church is having their Fall Family Festival on Saturday October 24th from 4-6pm, rain or shine, at the church, 1205 25th Street. Clean Up Otero

The Keep Otero County Beautiful Committee is having a volunteer clean up day on Saturday, October 17th, from 8am to 11am. They will begin the cleanup at La Luz Cartaway, #4 Old Mill Road off of Highway 70 North. All necessary equipment will be provided. Everyone is welcome – individuals, couples and groups are welcome! Free School Lunches

Enroll for the National School Lunch Program in the Student Nutrition Services Office at the APS Administration Building (1211 Hawaii, Alamogordo)! All students in the Alamogordo Public School district are eligible to receive a healthy school breakfast and lunch at no charge – regardless of household income. Rummage Sale

Mountain Bible Fellowship is having a fundraiser rummage sale on Saturday, October 24th, at 33 Haynes Canyon Road in High Rolls. From 9am until noon, explore their selection of used books, tools, exercise equipment, house hold items, and clothing. All purchases are cash only. Funds go towards supporting community projects. Referees For Middle and High School Basketball

Alamogordo, Cloudcroft and Tularosa district schools are looking for men and women to referee middle school, freshman, and J.V. basketball games, as soon as possible. Experience is preferred, but not required. Training is available and refs will receive payment for every game they call. For more information, contact Chris Black at 575-446-2125.

Farmer’s Market

The Otero County Farmer’s Market runs every Saturday from 8am until noon. The event features over fifty vendors, selling items ranging from hand crafted merchandise to locally grown produce and agricultural products. Voter Registration

Register to vote at the County Clerk’s office, 1104 N. White Sands Blvd, Suite C. They are open Monday to Friday, from 7:30am to 6:00pm, except for public holidays. Retiring US Flags

The Holloman Air Force Base Honour Guard will help you or you organisation retire old, worn out US flags. Bring the flags to First National Bank at 414 E. First Street between 9am – 4pm on weekdays or contact Rainee Mackewich at (575) 437-4880

Civil Air Patrol

The Civil Air Patrol is looking for new members, aged 12 to 17, who are interested in learning search and rescue techniques, aerospace education and developing life and career skills. Meetings are ever Tuesday from 6-8pm at the White Sands Regional Airport, 3500 Airport Road, Alamogordo. Volunteer Drivers

The Alamogordo Senior Center has a great need for volunteer drivers to deliver meals to home-bound elderly citizens. Volunteers would work between 10:30 and noon on weekdays, on days of their choosing, and receive a mileage reimbursement. For more details, contact the director of the Senior Centre at 575-439-4150

Salvation Army Seeks Donations

There is a high demand for food donations to help feed those in need in Otero County. Please bring canned goods (fruit, meat, vegetables), dry goods (cereal, rice, noodles, dry beans), peanut butter, fruit juice, bottled water and any other non-perishable products you can spare to the Salvation Army Center; 1900 East 1st Street.
